ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SHORT TERM HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS

Who Needs Short Term Health Insurance Plans?

Having one offers you peace of mind and ease of pocket by giving you protection against large medical bills. If you ever require medical care, these companies will share the burden of the medical bills with you. It is almost a necessity now with the ever-increasing cost of medical care and medications.

However, there may be some instances in your life that you may be left without the protection of a health insurance. For examples:

If you have just completed your education, your student health insurance that would have provided you coverage previously may have ceased tobe effective. If you are currently unemployed and looking for a job, you may be without a medical coverage. If you have just resigned from your job which previously offered you a group health insurance, you will be left without any until you find another. If you are travelling to U.S. for a short period of time as an international student or as an employee, you may want onw to cover you during your stay.

The great news is there is a perfect solution to these instances that you are left with no health insurance protection – a short term health insurance.

How Long Is Short Term?

While most of these plans cover you from one to six months, there are those that offer you coverage for up to a year. The period basically depends on your stipulation. You can always renew your short term health insurance plans if you require coverage for a longer period. However, most of them do not run for more than a year.

Advantages of Short Term Plans

They do not require you to undergo physical examinations The application process is easier with lesser paperwork and effort than for a general health insurance. However some companies may charge you a nominal fee for processing your application. Your coverage becomes effective from the time the company gets your first premium, which can be within 24 hours of submitting the application for the insurance. They do cover you for accidents and sudden illnesses. Often you are allowed to visit doctors and medical facilities of your choice.

Disadvantages of Short Term Plans

They usually do not cover pre-existing health conditions (something you may have received treatment for within the past 5 years). They also do not cover routine medical care such as dental, optical and medical check-ups. They do not cover medical bills pertaining to pregnancy and childbirth. They do not guarantee renewals. So suppose you had taken a 3-month plan and you get into an accident on the 3rd month, the company will cover your costs only for the 3rd month. However, you may need on-going medical care during the 4th and 5th months. You are not covered by the insurance during the 4th and 5th months and there is no guarantee that you current company will renew your policy. If you want to go somewhere else for a short term insurance policy, they will also not cover your medical costs pertaining to the accident as it will be considered a pre-existing condition. People with pre-existing conditions may find it difficult to get a short term health insurance. If they do get one, it would probably be more costly.

While short term health insurance may prove to be useful to many, there are some people who would prefer a general one. One reason is because, they may not know the exact time-frame they require the short term coverage. Furthermore, for those looking for a job, there is also no guarantee that their new employee will provide group medical plans. Study your needs and situation carefully when deciding on a short term health insurance.

What Skills Do I Need to Be A Mental Health Nurse

Tags: , , , ,

Mental Health Nurses are called upon for a wide variety of tasks that require a specific set of skills. Not everyone is capable of meeting the demands of the position, but those that do are in high demand. Working as a mental health nurse can sometimes be challenging, but it offers the opportunity to help people in desperate need and fulfil one of the most important roles in British society.

A high level of Personal skills is one of the most important set of abilities for a nurse working with sufferers of mental illness. They work with children, adults and the elderly with a wide variety of symptoms and care needs, providing essential care and support for people enduring the personal distress of mental health problems. Building a relationship with patients to encourage their trust in medical advice is critical to their chances of recovery and this can only be done by developing a personal relationship. Listening and talking to patients about their problems is often one of the most effective ways of helping the mentally ill recover.

The nature of mental health illnesses means that often, nurses will need a degree of personal strength in their interactions with patients. Some patients may experience acute mental distress and may be unable to communicate the reason they are upset – they may even become aggressive. By responding in a non-threatening manner, nurses can help understand the reasons for distress and assist patients in overcoming their problems.

Personal skills are also required for liaising with other medical professionals, be they doctors, occupational therapists or psychiatrists. Maintaining a good relationship with other people involved in the care of a patient can help ease workloads for everyone involved and ensure that patients are getting the best care possible. Having the patience to work with people outside of the medical industry, who may not understand the reasons behind patient behaviour or decisions over patient care is important.

It also requires attention to detail. Nurses in both private and residential mental health services are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the correct medication for their conditions and for monitoring how effective the treatment is. Maintaining accurate patient records is key to ensuring that the best method of care is being followed to help patients. Nurses are also required to ensure that all of the correct legal requirements for their workplace or the patients in their care are being followed.

Although working as a mental healthcare nurse carries a large amount of responsibility, it can be extremely rewarding. Helping people return to their normal lives as best as they can is literally a life saving accomplishment. Nurses are the frontline of healthcare and for many patients, their closest link to the path to recovery.

What Do You Need To Know About The Weight Loss Pill?

Tags: , , , , ,

The pharmaceutical companies who manufacture weight loss pills are enjoying a boom time at the moment feeding off the desperation of a populus that is increasing in weight year after year.

Sales of prescribed weight loss pills and over the counter variants are going through the roof since the health scares surrounding types of this product caused it to be removed from circulation during the late 1990s. Links to heart valve disease were something of a death nail to the weight loss pill market.

Nowadays, the weight loss pill is experiencing a renaissance. According to the pharmaceutical companies these weight loss pills are made completely of natural ingredients and are no longer of risk but yet they are still dogged by health issues.

Weight loss pills can be either prescribed or bought over the counter and the difference between the two are briefly highlighted here:

Prescription Weight Loss Pills:

Weight loss pills that are prescribed are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration agency. These pills have been monitored and scrutinized by the administration prior to use by the general public and as such are deemed the safer option.

The most popular of these is Xenical which works by reducing the amount of fat consumed by the body by 30 %. Unfortunately, Xenical is still dogged by side effects that include passing gas, abdominal cramping, increased number of bowel movements, leakage of oily stool and a loss of total control over bowel movements.

Over-the-Counter Weight Loss Pills:

The temptation to use over-the-counter weight-loss pills is often irresistible and the fact that many are not regulated warrants the question, are these products safe?

There are many pharmaceutical companies cashing in on the revived weight loss pill market and this is mirrored by the myriad of products available. Here is a shortlist of products, their claims and what you need to know:

1 Hoodia:

Possibly one of the better known products, claims to decrease appetite substantially.

Verdict: No conclusive evidence to support any of their claims.

2. Alli:

Reduces fat absorption by the intestines. A lesser strength variant of Xenical.

Verdict: As one of the few FDA approved over the counter weight loss pills it has the benefit of backing to substantiate its weight loss claims.

3. Guar gum:

Stops absorption of fat and suppresses appetite.

Verdict: Unlikely to cause weight loss, can cause gastrointestinal problems.

4.Green tea extract: Much revered in certain circles as it is claimed to increase metabolism

Verdict: Limited supportive evidence.

There are literally hundreds more all with relatively the same verdict. There is one resounding factor that all of these weight loss pills have in common. They all state that they are more effective when used in conjunction with a diet and a exercise routine.

If you decide to use a weight loss pill and follow its instruction to use a diet and an exercise program isn’t that hiding whether or not the tablet is effective or not?

Personally, I would forget the weight loss pill and look for an effective weight loss plan that will:

1. NOT tell me to go on a low calorie diet yet still provide me with fast but sustained weight loss

2. NOT put my health at risk

3. NOT cost a fortune

4. NOT be difficult to keep up

Never take diet drugs if pregnancy is suspected or if you are allergic to sulfites and tartrazine. Individuals under 18 or over 60 should consult their doctor prior to taking weight loss pills

Tags: , , ,

If you are someone who hides everytime you smile because you are embarrased of the spaces caused from missing teeth or someone who has difficulty in chewing. If you are somone who would like to speak, smile and eat again with great confidence and comforst, maybe it’s time for you to throw out your dentures and consider getting dental implants. Dental implants looks so natural and feels natural, you may never feel that you actually got a dental implant. By using the implants proplerly and having the procedure with a reliable and ceritified periodontist and dental implants can last a lifetime. The fact is, there are studies that prove the improving success rates for dental implants which means longer the user uses it, the more sturdy and effective dental implants are. That’s one major advantage of having dental implants and not dentures.

Artificial tooth replacements used to solve tooth loss are called dental implants. Dental implants are actually categorized as a form of artificial replacement (prosthetics) dentistry as wekk as cosmetic dentistry. This is why some people consider dental implants as a vanity and not as a solution.

These days, there are a number of ways to treat missing teeth, however, none has been proven to be durable and functionally effective as implants. For some occasions, dental implants are used to restore necessary supporting structures of the teeth and functionality.
Teeth are lost for so many reasons. It may be caused by:

· Tooth decay
· Root canal failure
· Congenital defects
· Trauma to the mouth
· Periodonitis
· Excessive wear and tear

Tooth loss can definitely cause biting irregularities which can provide a bad effect on a person’s eating habit and can lead to health problems such as malnutrition. Dental implant is definitely a great way to provide remedy for any type of problem caused by toothloss, plus it is already proven to be effective.

Unlike dentures or bridges, dental implants are much stronger and durable. Dental implants provides a permanent remedy to tooth loss. Another advantage of dental implants is that it may also be used together with other restorative procedures to acquire maximum effectiveness. A single dental implant can be made to support a crown in replace of a missing tooth. Dental Implants are also used to provide a dental bridge for replacing multiple missing teeth. Dental implants are also used with dentures to provide more stability stability and to reduce irritation of the gum tissue.

Some advanced procedures such as the development of a narrow mini implant would mean that more people would consider themselves as candidates for dental implantation. However, candidates for dental implantation still has to undergo the consultation of a certified periodontist. The dentist would be the one to determine if one should consider to choose an alternative restoration. One must also remember that dentists are not required to have a specific license for them to perform dental implants. A bridge and crown placement in conjunction with implant restoration can be performed by a general or restorative dentist. However, the person who will complete this crucial procudre should be a prosthodontists.

In general, Dental implants are done to:

· Provide support for dentures, making it more comfortable and durable
· Support bridges and to eliminate the need for a partial denture
· Replce single or multiple teeth without affecting bordering teeth

There are different types of Dental Implanst being used these days:

The Endosteal is considered as the most common type of dental implant being used. Screws, blades or cylinders are surgically set into the jawbone. Each of the implant holds a single or multiple prosthetic teeth. Endosteal implant is mostly used as an alternative for those people with removable dentures or bridges. Subperiosteal is another type of dental implant. The implants are normally set on top of the jaw and its metal framework’s posts are protruding through the gum for it to hold the prosthesis. This kind of dental implant are best for people who are unable to wear dentures and have a minimal bone height.

The Increasing Need For Mental Health Care

Tags: , , , ,

Mental health care needs are on the rise with more and more people suffering in silence. Depression is one form of mental health care that people tend to ignore because of the stigma associated with this type diagnosis. There are many causes of depression including the death of a family member, break up of a marriage, and failing health. Many people see this condition as a weakness that can be prevented but this is far from the truth.

Depression is a chemical imbalance which causes a person to feel blue and down trodden. If left untreated it can lead to thoughts of suicide. Many people are good at hiding their feelings because they don’t want the public to know they are ill. People who suffer from depression often feel worthless and they think nobody cares about them. Some people will begin spending more and more time in bed sleeping and they may experience a loss of appetite. Mental health care intervention can be a big help towards restoring normal day to day functions.

The Need For Understanding

People who suffer from mental health problems have an additional need for compassion and understanding. The stigma of mental health care is a big part of the problem of escalating mental health illness cases. Mental health workers are looked upon as “shrinks” and most people will try to avoid them. The public needs to be educated about mental health and the needed care that goes with it. Offering understanding is the first priority in getting help for that friend or loved one. Showing that person you understand they are ill and not “crazy” is an important step. Offering support can go a long way towards helping that person heal.

Seeking Help

If you or someone you know is suffering from a mental illness it is important to understand that there is help available. Mental health care can provide emotional support and help with understanding and treatment. Counseling can help the patient explore the reasons for their feelings and get those feelings out in the open. Once those feelings are faced head on there is a real hope of healing.

Some people will need the added support of anti-depressants to help them get back on their feet. Often these drugs can be taken on a temporary basis. With the support of counseling and anti-depressants the patient can return to a normal life much sooner than they expect. Once people approach mental health care as being an illness instead of a stigma they can begin the healing process without having to worry how other people think.

What You Need To Know In Getting A Dental Plan

Tags: , , , ,

There are many insurance companies offering dental care plans nowadays. It could either go together with your medical insurance or you have the option to choose which insurance company to get your plan from. Whichever you choose to do, it is important to know first the basics about dental care plans so you will be able to make the right decision and not have any regrets.

First, let us see why dental care plans are a must.

Having the right dental plan can make dental care affordable. Dental care could be quite costly but if you have a dental plan, there is a way for you to get the treatment you need even if the cost could be quite high. Also, the right insurance can help prevent illness because plan holders are usually encouraged to make the most out of their insurance by going to the dentist for regular check ups. This way, your dental needs are monitored closely and any kind of dental illness could be detected right away. Financial health could also be protected by dental plans. In cases wherein accidents occur and a person needs to undergo immediate dental treatment like surgeries and other procedures, having a dental plan will keep the cost of the treatment down and the patient could get the treatment with less delays due to financial constraint.

There are three basic things that are included in dental care plans – preventive and diagnostic dental care, basic dental care and procedures, and major dental care. With preventive and diagnostic care, dental plans cover basic dental costs meant to prevent dental diseases or problems such as cleaning and regular checkups. This is the coverage inclusion that is considered as the most important not only because it help prevents dental diseases but also because it encourages plan holders to seek regular checkups thus making the most out of their insurance.

Basic dental care and procedures include fillings, tooth extractions, fixing chipped teeth, and other basic procedures. There are other dental plans that cover additional procedures like root canals. Major dental care, on the other hand, includes dental surgeries, orthodontics, denture work and other expensive dental procedures. For basic and major dental care, some insurance companies do not cover the whole cost of the procedure but only a portion of the service fee. So in this case, it is best to check and compare different dental plans to see which could offer the best coverage on these types of dental care procedures because they are the ones that most likely to be costly.

Another factor that plan holders could consider is the yearly maximum benefits. Most dental insurance policies set a maximum yearly dollar amount to cover for dental care needs. If a plan holder goes over that maximum amount, then he or she will have to pay for the exceeding amount. But if ever the plan holder does not maximize that amount, the remaining amount not used within a year will not be carried over to the next year.

With all these basic information at hand, you will be able to have an idea what to look for in a dental insurance. Determine first your dental needs, check insurance plan policies, and then decide which will suit you best.
